I have had a very wide range of experiences and adventures in my 67 years, including travel to 5 continents and 25 countries. I was born and raised in Ohio, graduated from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio in 1973, and went right into the United States Peace Corps. I was assigned to Honduras, Central America, where I worked in Rural Health. I married there, and after my assignment, returned to Ohio with my husband, where we had two children. We eventually moved to Florida, where our third child was born. After a divorce, I began a Master’s Degree program at Florida International University. I remarried in the same year that I was hired by the United States Foreign Service. During the following eight years, my family and I were posted to Spain, Panama, and Mexico. In 2000, I left government service, and embarked on my most marvelous adventure yet – that of Holistic Health Practitioner.
I graduated from the Academy of Professional Careers Holistic Health Practitioner Program in January 2002 with 1000 hours of study. I have operated as sole proprietor of a massage therapy and spiritual center in Chula Vista, Healing Spirit Holistic Center, since May 2001. I carry liability insurance through my professional membership with the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals.
I have been trained in numerous massage modalities, (such as Swedish Massage, Reflexology, Shiatsu & Tui-Na, Structural Alignment, Passive Joint Movement, Sports Massage, and Chair Massage, for example); as well as in other types of treatments, such as Aromatherapy, Hydrotherapy, Healing Touch, Qigong, and Herbal & Nutritional Counseling. Because I am a mother myself, I have a special interest in pregnancy/post- partum and neonatal massage, and have extended my practice to include massage during a woman’s labor and delivery. I have assisted in the labor rooms for 3 of my clients, and attended/assisted the births of all three of my grandchildren.
